The most important line from chapter eight of Divergent by Veronica Roth was after the main character, Tris, shot a gun for the first time.
"There is power in controlling something that can do so much damage- in controlling something, period." (Roth 79)
This line is very important because Tris is getting adjusted to being Dauntless, a faction that values bravery. Before she was Dauntless, Tris was from Abnegation that valued self-lessness. Guns are not allowed in Abnegation because it is used for self-defense, which makes it self-serving. This could also be foreshadowing what Tris will do in the future because now she knows what the power of violence feels like. Tris is thinking that she might belong in Dauntless because of this line from the story.
